2022 National Conference

The AREUEA National Conference invites paper submissions on all facets of real estate related research including housing, urban economics, commercial real estate investment, finance, and the securitization of real estate assets and liabilities, and more. The goal of the meeting is to provide participation opportunities to a broad range of affiliated disciplines where AREUEA members can present their research in a rigorous and engaging scholarly environment.

The conference is held in Washington DC over a two-day period typically at the end of the Memorial Day week. The sessions are informative and ample time is provided to allow for discussion among the presenters and session participants. Policy makers, academics, and real estate practitioners have all come to rely on the leading research and vigorous discussions that are a tradition of this conference.

2022 Conference Information:

The 50th annual National Conference will be held in Washington, DC June 2-3, 2022.

Paper Sessions: The conference will feature 18 individual paper sessions, running from Thursday morning through Friday afternoon.

Keynotes and Policy Panel: On Thursday June 2, there will be a lunchtime policy panel.  On Friday June 3, Susan Wachter, Albert Sussman Professor of Real Estate, and Professor of Finance at The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, will give the Quigley Lecture.

Junior Scholar Program: The conference will also include dedicated sessions to open the 2022-2023 Junior Scholar program.  These sessions will be on the morning of Thursday June 2. In each session, three to four junior scholars will present an early-stage research project or paper, each of which will be discussed by a senior scholar. The mentor-mentee pairings will continue to meet at least three times over the 2022-2023 academic year to discuss developments in the focal paper, as well as other questions the mentee may have regarding professional development.

The program is open to anyone who graduated with their PhD in 2017 or later, as well as advanced graduate students.  We will consider papers on all topics, but with a preference for work in the area of urban economics this year.  We will return to a focus on real estate finance (or expand the program to cover all fields) next year. Papers can be in the early stages but submissions need to be at minimum a detailed abstract along with some preliminary results. Completed drafts are also welcome. Papers can have been submitted to journals, but not yet at the R&R stage.  Junior scholars interested in being mentees should submit the work they are interested in presenting via the main AREUEA National Conference submission portal, noting that it should be considered for the mentorship program in the "Remarks" field.

Submission:  The submission deadline for all papers is midnight EST on February 1st.   Membership is required prior to submission, and you must log in to the AREUEA Member page to access the submission link.  Mentorship program applicants can request to have their membership fees waived by emailing [email protected].
