Ingrid Gould Ellen

Ingrid Gould Ellen is the Paulette Goddard Professor of Urban Policy at the Wagner School at NYU. Professor Ellen's research interests center on housing policy, residential segregation, and neighborhood change. She is author of Sharing America's Neighborhoods: The Prospects for Stable Racial Integration (Harvard University Press, 2000) and co-editor of The Dream Revisited: Contemporary Debates About Housing, Segregation, and Opportunity (Columbia University Press, 2019) and How to House the Homeless (Russell Sage Foundation Press, 2010). She has also published articles in a wide variety of academic journals and books. Her co-authored Real Estate Economics paper won the Edwin Mills Best Paper Award in 2016, and her co-authored 2006 paper won the Raymond Vernon Memorial Prize for best article in Volume 25 of the Journal of Policy Analysis and Management. She serves on the editorial boards of several journals including the Journal of Urban Economics, the Journal of Housing Economics, and the Journal of Policy Analysis and Management.

Professor Ellen is also Faculty Director of the NYU Furman Center, which received the MacArthur Award for Creative and Effective Institutions in 2012, and a member of the faculty of the Weimer School for Advanced Real Estate Studies. She has held visiting positions at the Department of Urban Studies and Planning at MIT, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, the Urban Institute and the Brookings Institution.

Professor Ellen currently serves as the Professional Conduct and Inclusion Officer for AREUEA. She previously served on the Association’s board from 2011-2014, has served as both a member and chair of the Women in Real Estate Network (WREN), has served on the AREUEA-ASSA conference program committee, and has chaired the Edwin Mills Best Paper Award committee.

She attended Harvard University, where she received a bachelor's degree in applied mathematics and a Ph.D. in public policy.
