International Conferences

The American Real Estate and Urban Economics Association (AREUEA) typically organizes three conferences a year (ASSA, National, and International), as well as partners with other organizations and agencies, to offer multiple opportunities designed to provide open forums for the exchange of ideas and the dissemination of research relevant to applied decision making in real estate finance and urban economics.

Held for the first time in 1992, AREUEA's annual International Conference over the years has become the leading conference to address global developments in international topics that affect real estate and urban economics. The AREUEA membership now includes individuals and libraries from over 45 countries around the world.

Tokyo 2022 Conference (joint with AsRES)
August 4-7, 2022

The 2022 Tokyo conference will bring together leading researchers and practitioners in the field of real estate from all over the world. The aim is to enhance interdisciplinary discussions pursuing the conference theme, “Towards Sustainable Real Estate.” The conference will take place in Tokyo — the capital of Japan since 1603 and the world’s largest megacity — that makes every effort to integrate long-standing traditions from the past with sustainable innovations in the future.

The 2022 Tokyo conference will be either in-person or online on a day-by-day basis. Currently, the first three days (August 4-6) will be in-person and the last day (August 7) will be virtual. The Conference will be hosted by Chuo University and the Japanese Association of Real Estate Financial Engineering (JAREFE).

Entry restrictions to Japan were further relaxed on June 1, 2022 (Please see https://1drv.ms/b/s!AjoqZJetldVmlvAssjCAv2yhFHs9SA?e=huGg57). A participant from a “Blue” country/region (including the US, Canada, and Mexico) can enter Japan without a quarantine period or a test at the arrival airport, regardless of a booster status. However, all foreign nationals will need to go through the following process.

  1. Register for the Conference for each participating and accompanying person. The local organizer (JAREFE) will issue the ERFS certificate, letter of guarantee, invitation letter, and itinerary in Japan.
  2. Apply for a short-term visa. A participant and accompanying persons cannot enter Japan for tourism. A US citizen can mail your application form, passport, and ERFS certificate to the nearest Japanese consulate. It will take approximately two weeks to obtain a visa.
  3. Obtain the certificate of a negative COVID-19 test result within 72 hours of the international flight departure (form). The airline company will check the certificate at check-in.
