Assistant Extension Professor of Real Estate

INTRODUCTION

The School of Business at the University of Connecticut invites applications for an Assistant Extension Professor in the Center for Real Estate and Urban Economic Studies, a nationally and internationally recognized academic center of excellence in real estate education and research. This is a non-tenure track faculty appointment within the Finance Department and will begin in Fall 2022.

The successful candidate will be expected to be the primary liaison between the Center and the CT Department of Consumer Protection for the real estate industry delivering continuing education for real estate licenses (mandatory legal courses for DCP).  Assist with the execution of the Center’s outreach mission targeted at the real estate professional community, as well as be committed to effective undergraduate instruction, and to the mentoring of students in their professional development. 

This position will also be expected to assist the University in its efforts to broaden participation among members of under-represented groups; demonstrate through their public engagement and teaching the richness of diversity in the learning experience; integrate multicultural experiences into relevant course content; and contribute to the development of pedagogical techniques designed to meet the needs of diverse learning styles and intellectual interests.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

 Responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to:

  • Producing mandatory continuing education legal courses for real estate licenses for the Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection (DCP).
  • Serving as a liaison for the DCP for outreach in the real estate industry.
  • Assisting the Director of the Center for Real Estate and Urban Economic Studies with student programs and activities, including educational seminars and field trips to cities such as Hartford, Stamford, Waterbury, Boston, New York, and Las Vegas.
  • Conducting seminars for real estate educators and attorneys.
  • Coordinating programs and activities for real estate students.
  • Attending industry meetings and conferences such as REEA, ICSC, CoreNet Global, etc.
  • Teaching two three-credit undergraduate/graduate courses per academic year, one in Finance/Real Estate Principles and the second in Business Law.
  • Performing other service/outreach-related duties for the Center as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS 

  • Earned Juris Doctor degree with a license to practice law in Connecticut.  Equivalent foreign degrees are acceptable.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrated collegiality.
  • Five years of related experience managing relationships with stakeholders in the real estate and/or business community.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS 

  • Demonstrated college teaching excellence at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
  • Demonstrated ability to contribute through teaching, research, and/or service and community engagement to the diversity and excellence of the Center’s and Department’s missions.

APPOINTMENT TERMS 

This is a full-time, 11-month end-date non-tenure track position with the possibility of annual reappointment, contingent upon positive annual reviews and program funding, and may lead to a multi-year appointment. The anticipated start date is August 23, 2022. The successful candidate will be assigned a primary academic appointment at the Storrs campus, with the possibility of course assignment outside of the base campus or online.  Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
