The Economic and Housing Research Team at Freddie Mac is looking for a climate research economist who will be contributing to research related to climate and its impact on the housing and mortgage market and society at large. Our Impact:

  • Our team is responsible for providing thought leadership and conducting empirical research on various topics related to the housing and mortgage market and communicating the findings internally and externally
  • We are also responsible for critically analyzing and reporting economic forecasts and their impact on the industry and the organization
  • We collaborate with other divisions and teams to support our company’s mission to provide liquidity, stability, affordability, and equity

Your Impact:

  • Collaborate with senior team members to formulate and prioritize research related to climate
  • Connect with teams across the company to identify their business needs and provide support
  • Work with large public and internal databases, perform statistical analysis and communicate the findings internally and externally via presentations and publications

Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of research experience in climate-related topics as it relates to housing and /or mortgage finance
  • Knowledge of various climate-related physical and transition risks
  • Strong econometric/statistical background with the ability to interpret the research findings while maintaining attention to details • Experience with statistical tools such as STATA, SAS, and R
  • Ability to handle large datasets and discover patterns and trends through spatial mapping using spatial tools such as geographic information system (GIS) or QGIS
  • Skilled in presenting information and or ideas to an audience in the form of charts using visualization tools such as Tableau, Arc Map, Power BI
  • Experience with SQL, Python, and related databases
  • M.S. or Ph.D. degree preferably in environmental/agricultural/applied/real estate economics or equivalent
